2026 Tire Amnesty - Two Locations -Two Dates

Working Together

The North Central Nebraska RC&D, in partnership with Keya Paha County and the Upper Elkhorn NRD, has secured funding for two tire amnesty events. This is made possible by Waste Reduction and Recycling Grants from the Nebraska Department of Water, Energy, and Environment.

Location

Springview, Nebraska - The tires will be collected at the Old Springview Airport, 101 Airport Road.

O'Neill, Nebraska - The tires will be collected at the O'Neill Recycling Center, 87187 494 Avenue.

Dates and Times

Springview - Tires will be collected on Tuesday, April 28th, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and Wednesday, April 29th, from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM.  The event will close when 400 tons are collected.

O'Neill - Tires will be collected on Tuesday, June 9th, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and Wednesday, June 10th, from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. The event will close when 700 tons are collected.

Who Can Participate?

Residents of all six counties of the RC&D, Boyd, Brown, Cherry, Holt, Keya Paha, and Rock, are encouraged to bring their scrap tires! Tire retailers, as well as residents of South Dakota, are not allowed to participate. There will be no assistance unloading the tires, so please plan accordingly.

What Kind of Tires are Accepted?

All sizes of car, truck, pivot, semi, and tractor tires will be accepted. No rims will be accepted.  Any tires with excessive dirt or debris will be turned away.

Know Your Weight

For 20 or fewer tires, a count by tire type is needed. Loads with more than 20 tires will require weights. The event can not accept more tonnage than granted, so it is important to know the weight of the loads. Plan ahead to bring weights!

Why Recycle Tires?

Besides reducing the waste that ends up in landfills, it conserves natural resources and prevents environmental hazards.  Tires collected at this event will be recycled by Champlin Tire Recycling, Inc., Concordia, Kansas. Salvageable tire casings are repaired and retreaded in their plant. Tractor and large tire sidewalls are cut and turned into silage covers or turned inside out for feed bunks. Tires are also processed into by-products used in manufacturing park benches and picnic tables.
